Zomato Introduces 10 Days Of ‘Period Leave’ For Employees Per Year
Zomato introduces menstrual leave of up to 10 days for employees.
India’s largest food aggregator Zomato introduces 10 days of ‘period leave’ for employees per year. In a note for the male employees in the blog, Goyal said, “Our female colleagues expressing that they are on their period leave shouldn’t be uncomfortable for us”
He took twitter and said “Here’s to making Zomato a little more inclusive every day. Thank you to all the women leaders at Zomato for driving this change.”
Zomato is the most high profile organisation to institute the policy in India, a country where menstruation is still taboo to some.
“There shouldn’t be any shame or stigma attached to applying for a period leave,” Zomato chief executive Deepinder Goyal said in an email to staff on Saturday.
“You should feel free to tell people on internal groups, or emails that you are on your period leave for the day.”
The email further said that “Zomato understands that men and women are born with different biological realities. It is our job to make sure that we make room for our biological needs, while not lowering the bar for the quality of our work and the impact that we create.”
“Such a great and progressive initiative ! Amazing stuff”
However, some netizens are criticizing this policy.
