On August 15, 2021, India will celebrate its 75th Independence Day with customary pride, as it was on this day that India gained independence from British control. The East India Company took control of India in 1757, following the British victory at the Battle of Plassey. The Indian Independence day Movement was led by Mohandas Karamdas Gandhi and began during World War I. India gained independence on August 15, 1947, after almost 200 years of British rule.

India’s Independence Day facts that aren’t well known
The song “Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata,” written by Nobel winner Rabindranath Tagore in 1911, was renamed “Jana Gana Mana” and chosen as the national anthem by the Constituent Assembly of India on January 24, 1950.
On August 7, 1906, in Parsee Bagan Square in Kolkata, the Indian national flag with three horizontal stripes of red, yellow, and green was raised. Pingali Venkayya, a freedom warrior, created the first form of India’s present national flag in 1921. The present flag, which has the Ashok Chakra in the center and is made of saffron, white, and green colors, was adopted on July 22, 1947, and raised on August 15, 1947.
Along with India, five other countries commemorate their independence on August 15. Bahrain, North Korea, South Korea, the Republic of Congo, and Liechtenstein are the countries involved.
Only one location in India manufactures and supplies the Indian flag. The Karnataka Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Sangha (KKGSS) holds the right to produce and supply the Indian national flag. It is based in Dharwad, Karnataka. The flag is made entirely of hand-spun and handwoven cotton khadi fabric, according to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
Goa remained a Portuguese colony even after India’s independence. The Indian Army only annexed it to India in 1961. As a result, Goa was the last state to ratify India.
